As part of the First Campus initiative at the University of Glamorgan, we are very pleased to introduce MERTHYR ROCKS, a free Rock Music Programme running at Merthyr Tydfil College on Monday evenings between 4 and 7pm We plan to work with up to 24 young people between the ages of 10 and 18 years in four groups. Each group will ideally be made up of maximum of: one drummer, one bassist, one or two guitarists, one keyboard player and a vocalist. Participants need to have a minimum of grade 3 or equivalent on their instrument, they do not need to be able to read music. Each band will work to produce between two and four songs to perform at a live gig on Sunday the 1st April 2012 (venue to be confirmed). Bands from MERHTYR ROCKS will perform alongside bands from the JUNIOR ROCK MUSIC ACADEMY in ATRiuM. There is NO CHARGE to participate in MERTHYR ROCKS. There are twenty four spaces – eight guitar spaces and 4 each on drums, vocals, bass and keyboards. Spaces are strictly on a first come first served basis.
