PLUGGED IN AND WICID

PLUGGED IN, the music magazine for Wales, is a unique educational project that has been created and set up specifically to tutor disadvantaged young people in Wales the skills of performance photography and journalism, though series of workshops, with the aim of helping them gain invaluable work experience in the creative industries.

Gail Griffiths and Darren Warner the co-founders and editorial backbone currently produce this magazine in their spare time and are unpaid, as they believe this is a valid project that will help talented young people in Wales attain their potential.

Passing on their experience of working in the media for over 25 years to help these youngsters create a portfolio of published work to either get into college or find a job within the creative industries. Such opportunities are extremely rare.

Another very important aspect of the magazine is that it helps promote the Welsh music sector, by featuring unsigned artists who would otherwise not have a platform to showcase their creative talents alongside more well-known musicians like LostProphets, Stereophonics, Funeral For A Friend and even Sir Tom Jones (all artists with connections or members from Rhondda Cynon Taf).

A selection of the images used in the magazine are given free of charge to the aspiring artists for them to use for promotional purposes as they are usually unable to pay for photographs for self-publicity.

PLUGGED IN and WICID have teamed up to encourage and promote these talents even further, giving the young people of Rhondda Cynon Taf a truly national web presence.

Through the WICID.TV website the journalists and photographers at PLUGGED IN will have even more opportunities to showcase their talents, share their stories and promote their own skills as well as shout about the talented bands and artists that thrive in the South Wales Valleys.
