What is the
Urdd?
The Urdd is an exciting, dynamic movement for children and young people. It
organises a range of different activities across Wales. We have 16 development
officers who work all over Wales to ensure that the Urdd offers a full
programme of activties for children and young people.
- The Urdd was established in 1922 to give children and young people the chance to learn and socialise through the medium of Welsh.
- It gives the young people of Wales the chance to live vibrant lives through the medium of Welsh, learning at the same time to respect each other and people around the world.
- The Urdd welcomes Welsh speakers and Welsh learners.
- 50,000 children and young people are members of the Urdd.
- One in every three of every Welsh speaker between the ages of 8 and 18 are members of the Urdd.
- 30% of all members say that they have learnt Welsh.
- Over 3,000 members are between 16 and 25 years of age.
- Famous faces that are previous Urdd members are Huw Edwards, the news reader, Bryn Terfel the world famous singer, and Glyn Wise from the Big Brother series!
- The Urdd has 10,000 volunteers who are active in 900 branches over the country.

In your area...
- A dedicated team of staff look after 300 local branches.
- Holidays, weekly clubs, competitions, trips abroad and trips to stay at the Urdd residential centres are organised.
In the residential centres....
- All sorts of activities from sailing, canoeing and climbing at Glan-llyn, to tabogganing, skiing, and horse-riding at Llangrannog, or what about visiting the Wales Millennium Centre or the Millennium Stadium whilst staying at the Urdd’s new residential centre at Cardiff Bay?
- Something to suit everybody’s taste!
On the playing field...
- Rugby, swimming, football, gymnastics, athletics ... the list is never ending!
- A chance to compete against children and young people from all across Wales.
- Weekly clubs and sports courses.
On the Eisteddfod stage...
- The Eisteddfod is Europe’s largest arts youth festival.
- Singing, dancing, acting, performing, art and design, and poetry competitions.
- 15,000 compete at the National Urdd Eisteddfod each year.
In the magazines...
- What about reading the interesting stories or winning some prizes in the competitions in Cip, iaw! or Bore Da?
- There are magazines for Welsh learners and fluent Welsh speakers.
- 10,000 magazines are read in schools and in homes all over Wales every month.
Through humanitarian work...
- The Urdd has been announcing the Message of Peace and Goodwill to the world since 1925.

Beth yw'r Urdd?
Mae Urdd Gobaith Cymru yn fudiad cyffrous a deinamig i blant a phobl ifanc. Mae’n darparu amrywiaeth o weithgareddau ar draws Cymru gyfan. Mae swyddogion datblygu yn gweithio ym mhob ardal er mwyn sicrhau bod rhaglen lawn o weithgareddau yn cael ei chynnig i blant a phobl ifanc
- Sefydlwyd yr Urdd ym 1922 i roi cyfle i blant a phobl ifanc i ddysgu ac i gymdeithasu drwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg.
- Mae’n rhoi cyfle i ieuenctid Cymru i fyw bywydau byrlymus trwy gyfrwng y Gymraeg gan ddysgu parchu ei gilydd a phobloedd y byd.
- Mae’n croesawu siaradwyr Cymraeg a dysgwyr.
Pwy sy’n aelodau o’r Urdd?
- Mae 50,000 o blant a phobl ifanc Cymru yn aelodau o’r Urdd.
- Mae un rhan o dair o’r holl siaradwyr Cymraeg rhwng 8 ac 18 yn aelodau.
- Mae 30% o’r holl aelodau yn dweud eu bod yn ddysgwyr
- Mae dros 3,000 o’r aelodau rhwng 16 a 25 mlwydd oed.
- Enwau cyfarwydd a fu gynt yn aelodau o’r Urdd yw Huw Edwards, y darllenydd newyddion, Bryn Terfel, y canwr byd enwog, a Glyn Wise o’r gyfres Big Brother!
- Mae gan y mudiad 10,000 o wirfoddolwyr sy’n weithgar dros ben mewn 900 o ganghennau ledled y wlad.
Beth sydd gan yr Urdd i’w gynnig i ti...

- Pob math o weithgaredd o hwylio, canwio a dringo yng Nglan-llyn, i wibgartio, sgïo a merlota yn Llangrannog, neu ymweliad â Stadiwm y Mileniwm neu’r theatr yng Nghaerdydd

- Rygbi, nofio, pêl-droed, gymnasteg, athletau... mae’r dewis yn ddiddiwedd!
- Cyfle i gystadlu yn erbyn plant a phobl ifanc ar hyd ac ar led Cymru
- Clybiau wythnosol a chyrsiau chwaraeon
Ar lwyfan yr Eisteddfod..
- Gwyl gystadleuol fwyaf Ewrop i ieuenctid yw hon
- Cystadlaethau canu, dawnsio, actio, perfformio, celf a chrefft, barddoni
- Mae 15,000 yn cystadlu yn Eisteddfod Genedlaethol yr Urdd bob blwyddyn.
