Young stars across Rhondda Cynon Taf are ready to shine for the crowds as the V Factor auditions begin.

The calibre of young stars across Rhondda Cynon Taf increases every year and audiences are in for a real treat as this year’s competition promises to be even bigger and better than last year with a special guest performance at the final from the highly acclaimed Jukebox Juniors.

Jukebox Juniors are a UK based dynamic, ambitious and hugely successful dance company in the hip hop and funk dance scene. A crew consisting of young people aged from 8-15 years old, Jukebox Juniors are a fresh and energetic team that deliver the utmost in a performance of any kind. Don’t be fooled by age. They are one of the hottest properties and the newest and most diverse young acts in the UK, and have already achieved massive success by getting to the Finals of Sky One's, ''Got To Dance'', supporting international singing artist NE-YO, performing on BBC Children In Need 2009, appearing in the Gap Commercial Campaign UK and so much more.

The Jukebox Juniors are a testament to what can be achieved by talented young people and will be a real inspiration to the young people performing in Rhondda Cynon Taf.

Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Services for Young People and Cultural Services teams, in partnership with Bigfoot Arts and supported by the Heads of the Valleys programme and Capita Symonds, opened the search for the young stars of 2010 in January via the successful V Factor Competition.

Young people aged 11 – 19 years old will now be taking to the stage in the Coliseum, Aberdare on 4th, 5th and 6th May in a bid to make it through to the finals of this talent showcase competition on 25th May. Three acts will be chosen from each of the following categories to compete in the final:

  • Best Dance Act (includes contemporary break dancing, street dance, hip hop etc)
  • Best Live Music Act (includes bands and singer / songwriters)
  • Best Theatrical Performance (includes drama and musical theatre pieces)

The V Factor competition is a unique talent showcase for young people across Rhondda Cynon Taf. The aim is to inspire young people and develop their talents ready for a celebration event each year.

Rehearsals for the final are being held at the Park and Dare Theatre, Treorchy on 24th May with the final live performance taking place on 25th May at 1pm and 7pm.

Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, said: “Rhondda Cynon Taf is full of immensely talented young people and this is being showcased more and more as a result of the E3+ programme and projects like the V Factor. We are very proud of the young people in our County Borough who are always willing to try and learn new things and more often than not achieve excellent results.

“After the success of last year’s event, I am looking forward to this year’s performances and I’m sure we will be once again blown away by the standard of talent in Rhondda Cynon Taf. The project might be called the Valleys Factor but I think our young people have definitely got the X Factor!”

The lucky winners of the V Factor crown will be performing in front of thousands of people as part of the “Musical Youth Extravaganza – In Tune With Youth’ Showcase at the Wales Millennium Centre and become RCT’s ambassadors for youth arts during 2010.

If a young girl from Tonypandy can get into the semi final of Over the Rainbow then just believe in yourself and you can make things happen too.
Reach for the moon so that if you don't quite make it you can still be up there amongst the stars.

Got something to say?
