You should ask Wallace
Young people across Rhondda Cynon Taf were taken back in time last week to learn about the theory of evolution and were given a unique opportunity to speak to Alfred Russell Wallace, through the magic of a unique theatre performance by Theatr NaN’og.
The performance formed part of National Science and Engineering Week (12th - 21st March 2010) and was held at Gartholwg Lifelong Learning Centre.
This year's theme was 'Earth' in support of the International Year of Biodiversity and Gartholwg Lifelong Learning Centre is held a series of public and private performances on the story of evolution.
The ‘Lecture’ style performance gave young people an opportunity to meet the actor who plays Victorian Scientist Alfred Russell Wallace.
Alfred Russell Wallace was the co-discoverer of the theory of evolution with Charles Darwin and is responsible for spearheading many of the advancements we have seen in science over the last one hundred years.
After the performance young people were able to question the actor who plays the great Welsh man of Victorian Science.
Students across Rhondda Cynon Taf are also being given the opportunity through their individual schools to witness private performances through the medium of Welsh thanks to funding secured by the centre from the Welsh Assembly Government.
Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education Skills and Lifelong Learning, said: This event proved to be very interesting and informative and gave people the opportunity to learn about the history of evolution in a relaxed and entertaining environment.”
