Turnaround Project

The project is a fully funded intensive programme running in Rhondda Cynon Taff, Merthyr Tydfil, Newport, Monmouthshire, Torfaen, Caerphilly and Blaenau Gwent. We use a cognitive behavioural approach to support disengaged young people as they strive to end their misuse and abuse of drugs and alcohol.

The project runs up to 25 hours per week for 11 weeks, with the aim of supporting young people back into mainstream education, training or employment. We engage the young people in a programme for change focusing on issues such as anger management, motivation, self-esteem, life skills and basic skills. The cognitive behavioural approach challenges young peoples thinking, attitudes and beliefs which impact on their intake of substances.

Criteria:

The main criterion for a young person aged 14 – 18 / 18 - 25 to be referred is:

• They have been involved in substance misuse,
• May have been involved in offending behaviour linked to their substance misuse,
• Have expressed a wish to change.
