5×60 is an innovative project that aims to extend access to physical activity and a healthier lifestyle for young people across Rhondda Cynon Taf.There is a dedicated 5×60 officer in every secondary school in the County Borough, with the exception of Garth Olwg.
There are also 5×60 officers based in Ysgol Hen Felin and Ty Coch.
Working on behalf of not only that secondary school but also those that fall within its cluster, the enthusiastic 5×60 officers work to identify the needs and interests of young people and deliver accordingly.
They conduct a survey within their cluster every summer term, in which they find out the activities young people like to do, what they are interested in and what facilities they would like to see. They then work to deliver a programme in school hours and also extra-curricular activities that meet those needs.
Aimed predominantly at pupils aged 11 to 16, 5×60 also seeks to work with those in Year 6 at the primary schools in their cluster and offer transitional events to help younger pupils prepare for the step up to secondary school.
They send each Year 6 pupil in their cluster a programme of activities available to them so they can take part, joining in sessions with secondary school pupils who will soon be their schoolmates.
You can access 5×60 by contacting the 5×60 officer at your school.
