Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has secured important funding that will allow further work to ensure the best-possible education facilities for young people in the County Borough.
As part of the Council’s continued commitment to providing education facilities fit for the 21st century, feasibility studies will shortly commence on 5 existing school locations and premises within the County Borough.
The studies will be carried out as a direct result of the £2m funding received from the Welsh Assembly Government.
The 5 areas/sites that will be assessed are; Y Pant Comprehensive School, Improving Aberdare secondary provision, Penygawsi Primary School, Abercynon Primary School Modernisation and Cwmbach Primary School Modernisation.
The studies carried out will examine the possible improvements that can be made to the existing buildings and look at the options available to ensure that all children in Rhondda Cynon Taf have the highest quality education experience possible.
The findings of the feasibility studies will then be used to create detailed proposals, which can be submitted to the Welsh Assembly Government to secure the funding needed to carry out the plans.
Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, Councillor Eudine Hanagan said:
“This is a very important time for schools as the Council looks at how we can ensure that we provide the highest quality education experience for our children, and continue to raise standards of achievement across the County Borough.”
“The Council is committed to working with school governors and head teachers to deliver the best provision for children by building new and refurbishing existing buildings, providing classroom teachers with the resources they need.”
“Delivering the best possible education of our children is crucial to a strong future for Rhondda Cynon Taf and we will continue to do all we can to improve and invest in our schools. Our commitment is evidenced by the major capital investment in many of our schools in recent years, including Maesgwyn Special School, Tonyrefail Primary, Dolau Primary, new schools for Ynyshir and Penderyn and, of course, the new school planned for Williamstown and Penrhiwfer.”
“We are always looking at ways of further improving the facilities in which pupils learn and are pressing for more capital support for our vital infrastructure such as school buildings.”
