Residents in Aberdare are pulling on their gardening gloves in a bid to enjoy the outdoors.
Thanks to a special grant received for over £3,000 from “Awards for All” YG Rhydywaun are developing a plot of land at the front of the school and are turning it into an outdoor class room for young people to enjoy during school hours.
The aim of this project is to provide a fun after school activity for all of the family to get involved in which links into Eco Schools and promoting the welsh language.
The Bilingual Gardening Club runs every Thursdays from 3.30pm until 5pm outside the YG Rhydywaun.
Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education and Skills and Lifelong Learning, said: “This is a good way for young people to engage with the local community and learn some new skills as well as gaining a greater respect and understanding for those of a different generation. Once the garden in complete it will allow the young people to be able to study outside in a tranquil environment.”
