The V Factor final is promising to be the event of the year with a high number of young people successfully ‘wowing’ the judges at the audition stages.
This year’s auditions have seen hundreds of talented young people come forward to show off their fantastic talents in dancing, singing, theatrical performance, music and drama. The judges faced a tough task and now empathise with the likes of Simon Cowell and Cheryl Cole in having to choose between them.
Lloyd, from Merthyr Tydfil now aged 17 years, is a true testimony to the fantastic talent we have here in the Valleys after he shot to fame last year by reaching the final stages of the hit X Factor show.
Jukebox Juniors who are a UK based dynamic, ambitious and hugely successful dance company in the hip hop and funk dance scene will also be performing alongside Lloyd and the talented young people from Rhondda Cynon Taf. They are one of the hottest properties and the newest and most diverse young acts in the UK, and have already achieved massive success by getting to the Finals of Sky One’s, ”Got To Dance”, supporting international singing artist NE-YO, performing on BBC Children In Need 2009, appearing in the Gap Commercial Campaign UK and so much more.
The Jukebox Juniors are proof of what can be achieved by talented young people and will be a real inspiration to the young people performing in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Services for Young People and Cultural Services teams, in partnership with Bigfoot Arts and supported by the Heads of the Valleys programme and Capita Symonds, opened the search for the young stars of 2010 in January via the successful V Factor Competition.
Young people aged 11 19 years old took to the stage in the Coliseum, Aberdare on 4th, 5th and 6th May in a bid to make it through to the finals of this talent showcase competition on 25th May. Three acts have now been chosen from each of the following categories to compete in the final:
Best Dance Act (includes contemporary break dancing, street dance, hip hop etc)
Best Live Music Act (includes bands and singer / songwriters)
Best Theatrical Performance (musical theatre pieces)
The V Factor will also be presenting an Outstanding Achievement award following the high-quality of acts at the auditions! The competition is a unique talent showcase for young people across Rhondda Cynon Taf. The aim is to inspire young people and develop their talents ready for a celebration event each year.
Rehearsals for the final are being held at the Park and Dare Theatre, Treorchy on 24th May with the final live performance taking place on 25th May with a matinee performance for schools at 1pm and public performance at 7pm.
Councillor Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning, said: “Rhondda Cynon Taf is full of immensely talented young people and this is being showcased more and more as a result of the E3+ programme, Cultural Services, Youth Arts and SONIG Youth Music Industry programmes, as well as projects like the V Factor. We are very proud of the young people in our County Borough who are always willing to try and learn new things and more often than not achieve excellent results.
“After the success of last year’s event, I am looking forward to this year’s performances and I’m sure we will be once again blown away by the standard of talent in Rhondda Cynon Taf. The project might be called the Valleys Factor but I think our young people have definitely got the X Factor!”
The lucky winners of the V Factor crown will be performing in front of thousands of people as part of the “Musical Youth Extravaganza In Tune With Youth’ Showcase at the Wales Millennium Centre and become RCT’s ambassadors for youth arts during 2010.
Tickets for the final showcase tonight are on sale now from the Rhondda Cynon Taf Box Office – 08000 147 111.
