The new Group Lotus backed Renault formula 1 team, have revealed their final design of their car’s livery, which will contest the 2011 FIA Formula 1 World Championship. The black and gold livery is used to bring back the history of the famous Lotus team from the 70’s and 80’s.
The livery was released at the UK’s Autosport International show in Birmingham on Thursday 13th January 2011. Renault driver Vitaly Petrov and team principal Eric Boullier were at the show to unveil the new livery, applied to one of the 2010 Renault R30’s, which differs slightly from the images Renault released at the end of the 2010 season.
The 2011, Renault car (the R31) will be unveiled on January 31st in Valencia, before making it’s testing debut, during the first official test session at the circuit in Valencia.
The livery is designed to bring back the historic period in the history of Formula 1 during the 1970s and the 1980s. The car is hoped to be successful in 2011 to bring back memories of some of the most famous drivers of the black and gold cars, e.g. Mario Andretti, Nigel Mansell and not excluding the most famous of them all, Ayrton Senna.
I personally am fond of the idea to bring back the memories of Formula1’s past but I’m not sure that the black and gold livery of the Lotus-Renault will match the more contemporary liveries of the Red Bulls the McLarens and the Mercedes.
