The Lotus Renault GP Formula 1 driver from Poland, Robert Kubica has suffered multiple injuries in a rally accident in Italy. He has been diagnosed with multiple fractures to his right arm, right leg and right arm, which was caused by a high-speed accident while taking part in the Ronde di Andora Rally in Italy.

Kubica often takes part in rallying events in his spare time, away from the Formula 1 track, however he was airlifted to the Santa Corona Hospital in Italy, where he has been undergoing surgery, mainly on his hand. The pole suffered these multiple injuries, however his co-driver, Jakub Gerber was unhurt in the accident.

Reports from the scene of the accident say that Kubica lost control of jis Skoda Fabia on the damp roads during the Ronde di Andora Rally’s first stage. It is then said that the car impacted with the barrier, at which point the car’s footwell was pierced.

Kubica, who set the fastest time in his Ltus Renault car, at the last test session in Valencia will now be forced to sit out the next test session from Jerez, however, more seriously, he is highly doubtful for the opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 season in Bahrain. There are many candidates to replace Kubica for these sessions and races but top of the list is Bruno Senna. Ayrton, Senna’s nephew raced for the Hispania Racing Team last season and he is favourite after he signed as the Lotus Renault GP third driver, earlier on, last week.

What is your opinion of Kubica as a driver and as a person? Is Senna the right man to replace him?
