Vampires have been popular for a long time.
The most famous vampire book was written by Bram Stoker. And how did vampires come from evil, blood thirsty monsters like Dracula to romantic heroes like Edward Cullen or Stefan Salvatore?
All over the world there are legends of Vampires – folk tales and such. The famous Dracula was based on a real man known as Vlad the Impaler or Vlad Dracula (Dracula meaning Demon) who was a great warrior, he killed men and drank their blood. He also put people on large poles and watched them slide down he even had a picnic surrounded by the forest of the dead.
Another person who Dracula was based on was a woman who lured young women and girls into her castle, killed them and bathed in their blood, believing it would make her look younger (old fashioned moisturiser).
Vampires became more and more famous over the years, creatures of nightmares and scary stories and then it all changed – Vampires became romantic. Dracula was originally a love triangle and now so are a lot of other vampire stories. A lot of writers gave vampires romantic sides – some do not feed off animals, some risk their existence for the one they love and some sparkle.
One of the most famous modern vampires is Edward Cullen. Edward is a character in The Twilight Saga written by Stephanie Meyer. In this story, the main vampires, the Cullen family, feed off animals, they can come out in pictures, they don’t have fangs, they are much harder to kill and worse of all they sparkle. Don’t get me wrong, I like Twilight but I’m not the only person who believes the one rule that must be kept is sunlight.
There are many other vampire stories that are very famous – The Vampire Diaries, Night World and Secret Circle by L. J. Smith, The House of Night by P.C. and Kristin Cast.
The Vampire Diaries is famous for its story line. A young girl (Elena Gilbert) meets a handsome young man (Stefan Salvatore) who hides a dark secret. He is a vampire, and Stefan has a brother (Damon Salvatore) who also falls in love with Elena but the two brothers hate each other.
There are many ways to kill a vampire. A stake through the heart, sunlight, water, garlic and many others.
Other Famous Vampire stories include Blood Ties, True Blood, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Being Human, Becoming Human, Lost Boys and many others.
