The 39 year old Brazillian is set to drive his final race weekend in his home country of Brazil. Barrichello hasn’t yet been able to sign a new contract with a team to drive next year.
He made his debut in the South African Grand Prix in 1993 driving for Jordan. He then moved to Stewart to Ferrari the most successful team in Formula 1 for 6 years then moving to Honda, Brawn and Williams.
He has managed to get 11 wins in his season, 14 pole positions, 68 podiums and managed to secure 658 points in his career (Up to before the Brazilian Grand Prix) and has entered a massive 325 Grands Prix, the world record.
This year the Williams Cosworth team haven’t been able to provide Barrichello and his team mate Maldonado the car to challenge at then top of the field. He has managed to get into Q2 14 times sofar this season and 4 dropping out in Q1.
So far this season, Rubens has been able to secure a highest race position of 9th place on 2 occasions and retired 3 times and has been able to score a very disappointing 4 points.
It will be very sad to see such a good driver with a lot of history leaving Formula 1 and I hope he will manage to get a race seat for next year.
