Pontypridd High School welcomed a very important former pupil to its Year 8 Assembly today. Corporal Nerys Kingsbury from the Royal Military Police in Afghanistan came along, on behalf of the troops in Camp Bastion, to thank pupils at the school for their kind parcels and letters of goodwill at Christmas.
Project “Cheer up the troops” was organised by the Building the Future Together Department (BTFT) at school inviting pupils to take part in writing letters and making Christmas Cards to soldiers who were unable to come home for Christmas. Along with this, donations of toiletries, non-perishable foods and boiled sweets were collected and handed over to be packed ready for transportation to Camp Bastion.
After the assembly Corporal Kingsbury gave letters of thanks from the troops to the school and spent time with pupils answering questions about being a soldier. On her next visit home Corporal Kingsbury will hopefully make a return visit to the school.
Zoe and Ebony commented that this was one of the best projects that they had been involved in and that talking to Corporal Kingsbury was truly inspirational.
Building the Future Together Project is part financed by the European Social Fund through the Welsh Government.
