The X Factor to get axed?

The X Factor, has been bringing us a variety of talented (and not very talented) singers for the past ten years. However, the popular British talent show may very well be facing its last year on our screens. <?xml:namespace prefix =” o” ns =” “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office”” />

According to producer, Simon Cowell, the show could be axed if the ratings fail to pick up this year. Last year’s series did not reach the same viewing figures as it has done in the past.

Speaking from the launch of his other well known project, <?xml:namespace prefix =” st1″ ns =” “urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags”” />Britain’s Got Talent, Simon told the Daily Mail “I’d rather fall off the cliff on numbers than deteriorate slowly.”

“Now maybe that might mean with The X Factor we’d say in a year’s time ‘right, that’s the end of it’. We’ve got something in development which could replace the X Factor.”

Although Cowell is talking about other talent shows that are in development, he is not yet giving up on The X Factor.

“Most things in music, fashion or TV tend to be across a ten year period. The great test of success is if you can transcend a decade” he said.

“I believe we can do it again if we’re prepared to be brave.”

Being brave may mean there will be some exciting new twists in this year’s season of TXF. According to the daily mail, Cowell and the other show producers are already considering the idea of ditching the themed weeks in favour of bringing in top music producers to mentor contestants.

What do you think about the possibility of The X Factor coming to an end? Would you miss the popular show? Or are you like me and couldn’t give a monkeys? Comment below with your thoughts.

    As far as I’m concerned, it’s just egotistical nonsense, where untalented people can get completely humiliated in front of thousands of people, and a few fairly talented people get put upon a pedastal higher than they deserve.

    It’s fake. It’s unsocial. It’s unimportant.

    Simon, just let it die. Promote books instead. Maybe then kids today wouldn’t be so dim-witted.

    @ToWriteLoveOnHerArms Thank you!

    @StormerOO7 [my zero button died so make do with the O’s] nicely said. But knowing Simon and his money, he wouldn’t dream about promoting books or anything. He knows what he wants and that’s that.

    @TWLOHA No, I haven’t yet. I was at a Matt Cardle the first Saturday and TheSprout Awards Saturday just gone. Hope to catch a glimpse though. My brother auditioned for it. He didn’t get to the shows but I think he’s pleased just to have had the experience. x
