Young People taking part in RCT Council’s Services for Young People’s International Youth Exchange have just returned from a successful 2 week trip filled with activities and debates in Europe.
The 10 lucky young people (aged 16-20), headed off to the town of Wolfenbuttel, Germany, who hosted this year’s International Youth Exchange. The young people were accompanied by 2 Youth Leaders from Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Services for Young People – Matthew Swarfield and Rachel Brydon..
Matthew said: “It was a fantastic experience for everyone involved, and the young people learned a great deal about other cultures. They represented their communities and country excellently, we were very proud of them”.
All the young people welcomed the opportunity to be part of this International Exchange, which they seized as a fantastic chance to develop new skills and abilities, and understand other cultures.
They joined 30 young people from France, Germany, and Poland to undertake lots of intercultural activities, working on a project based around the folktales and myths from each partner country, and of course having fun and making new friends!
The young people worked hard at the many meetings, workshops and activities which took place over the course of the fortnight, including the intercultural aspect of the visit, and they made sure their European friends enjoyed a taste of Welsh food, music and traditions – and they also visited many places of interest in the Wolfenbuttel area, including hiking in the beautiful Harz Mountains.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Skills & Lifelong Learning Cllr Eudine Hanagan said: ““The annual International Youth Exchange gives young people taking part the opportunity to learn about other countries’ cultures, customs and languages, both past and present.
It also allows them to take part in a unique opportunity to learn more about each other, have fun and make new friends”.
