On the night of Thursday 21st February 2013, Wicid attended the annual Welsh Government Youth Excellence Awards atthe Swalec Stadium, Cardiffwhere Wicid was nominated for the Developing New Skills for Young People Award.

We arrived at the venueall dressed up in formal wear (which is something we usually avoid!) ready for what was going to be a fantastic evening andmany awards were going to be given out. When we arrived at the venue there where some wonderfulmagicians who wowed us with some brilliant illusions.

At 7pm we took our seatsand were served drinks, which were orange juice mixed with cranberry juice. After the drinks were served, we had a short opening-speech off the host of theevening who was Radio 1 DJ, Huw Stephens!

After the short speechfrom Huw, food was served with our starter being tomato and mozzarella tartletwith basil pesto and while tucking in to our starter we were entertained byCLICStar 2012 winner Autumn who performed a number of songs.Shortly after what was a wonderful performance by Autumn we were served our main course meal which was roast chicken breast served with potatoes, vegetables and onion gravy.

Britain’s Got Talent dancers A3, from Swansea, entertained us with what was afantastic routine of brilliant dance moves and some strange, unique body moves.

After was a wonderfulperformance by A3, we were served our dessert which was a trio of chocolatemousse with a dark chocolate finish and served with a dark and white chocolatesauce.

Now we were all filled upwith what was a lovely 3 course meal and it was time to welcome back onto stageour host for the evening, Mr Huw Stephens.

The first set of awardswere handed out to individual youth workers and two of them being part of RCT’sServices for Young People team Lewis and Liam. Well done to those two andeveryone else who won an individual youth worker award.

It was now time for ourcategory which was Developing New Skills for Young People Award; we were upagainst projects from Blaenau Gwent and Pembrokeshire and they were tough competition, but the time had come for Huw Stephens to answer this yearswinner. The winner was…the one and only WICID.tv!!

After finding out we wonthe award we were all jumping around with joy.

At the end of the awards,we had the chance to interview Mr Huw Stephens in Welsh and English and weinterviewed government member Mr Jo Banks, who is Head of Youth Form in theWelsh Government.

Congratulations to allwinners and runners up, and even people who got nominated.
