Review: Knotslip

On Friday 8th March, I attended The Factory music venue in Porth, Rhondda, where I went to see the Slipknot tribute band, Knotslip, who incorporate the full Slipknot experience including the masks, props and costumes.

Knotslip are a Slipknot tribute band based in Plymouth. The band is made up of 9 experienced musicians (Featuring members of Bring The Plague, Violent Virtues and Huron) who have known each other for many years, and have been ‘Maggots’ since a young age.

I lined up at the venue at 5pm so I’d be able to get a good spot at the front to see Knotslip. I was joined by a number of Slipknot fans who were energetic and couldn’t wait to see Knotslip.

There were 2 support bands ready to warm up the crowd.

The first support band which took to the stage was Hydrolysis from the Rhondda and Cynon Valleys; the band is a 4 member metal band, whose influences are Slipknot, Machine Head and Trivium. They started off with a number of cover songs by Lamb of God and Metallica, before ending with the Harlem Shake (which was comical) and an original song called Death by a Ghost.

Overall, even though it was their first ever big gig, they performed very well and got the crowd ready for the next support band.

The final support was The Hotel Ambush from Newport. They are a metalcore-sounding band and made up of 5 members from the Newport area. They started off with a cover of Bullet for my Valentine, then performed a number of originals such as; Bury Tomorrow, Monster and Dreaming.

Overall I think their performance went very well and I would love to see them again.

After a 20 minute break for Knotslip’s crew to set up their equipment, it was time for the one and only Knotslip to take to the stage.

They came out in trademark Slipknot boiler-suits with their individual masks on, which included a clown (I’m well scared of clowns!). They started off their performance with Till We Die, followed by Execute, Before I Forget, Circle, Danger Keep Away and one of their best songs Psychosocial. They then finished their performance at 11.30pm with two of their most popular songs People = Sh*t and Pulse of the Maggots. During the end of the last song the two front percussionists jumped off stage and joined in with the moshpit and unfortunately they ended up getting piled on by the crowd which was so funny.

I think this is the best Slipknot tribute band ever and I would highly recommend people to go and see them next time they are in Wales. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance.
