I’m a strong believer in music being one of the greatest gifts in the world. I’m glad to say I’m not the only one who thinks that. ComMusic was founded in 2012 to develop the communication and social skills of children and adults who come face to face with emotional, physical and cognitive barriers through structured musical workshops. ComMusic currently works with community centres, care homes and schools.

With varied musical and social backgrounds, the ComMusic workshop leaders have over ten years of musical experience, skills and knowledge to bring to each workshop and are CRB and data protection checked.

The workshops run for 30 minutes up to an hour, however longer workshops are available if required. These workshops are tailored to help individuals develop communication, social and team working skills and are also adapted to meet the specific needs and interests of individuals. In addition to developing essential life skills, the workshops also hold the opportunity to become creative, confident and innovative by using music.

A typical workshop starts with the ‘Hello Song’ and then asking the group to communicate how they feel by clapping hands or stomping feet. The main section of the session includes various activities while using instruments. Depending on the type of workshop, ComMusic may cover popular songs or perform their original songs based on particular themes. They also offer the use of social story pictures and sign language to accompany these songs. In conclusion to the workshops, they will ask the group how they feel again before finishing the session with the ‘Goodbye Song’.
