The evenings were aimed to be fun events to promote the work of Services for Young People to year six pupils in the transition from primary to comprehensive school. The young people were introduced to youth workers, who then offered the young people the opportunity to try out different activities.
The evening also served as a celebration for all the young people who currently attend youth provision.
There was a variety of taster activities on offer which were a mix of what’s going on in youth centres and E3+ during the September term.
• Cardiff City Football
• Table Tennis
• Arts and Crafts
• Inflatables, bungee run etc
• Mobile Skate Park
• Ferndale Youth Forum ran a cake stall
The Youth Integration Officers visited all primary schools within the clusters, dropping off letters and flyers for parents to market the event. Youth Forums spoke about the event in assemblies and during dinnertimes.
Positive attendance figures:
• 107 young people attended the Blaengwawr Celebration Day
• 90 young people attended the Ferndale Celebration Day (despite the event clashing with Darren Park Primary’s year six school trip)
All the young people who completed evaluation forms enjoyed the event and didn’t think it could be improved.
Attendance increased immediately in Blaengwawr Youth Centre; young people attended after coming to the event. Staff agreed to run similar events during the September term, so keep an eye out if you’re interested.
