The 6th August 1945 was the most horrific day for the Japanese city of Hiroshima. An atomic bomb was dropped on this city, destroying it and killing many thousands of its inhabitants. Shortly after, another bomb was dropped on the city of Nagasaki.
These bombings suddenly stopped World War II, after Japan surrendered. Japan had suffered and paid the price of this bombing, thanks to the war. The two cities were destroyed, and the amount of civilians killed was estimated at 200,000. Additionally, there were many more people dying from illnesses and injuries.
Here are some statistics that I found, about the people who died as a result:
1. 90,000–166,000 people in Hiroshima and 60,000-80,000 in Nagasaki were killed.
2. 60% died from flash or flame burns.
3. 30% from falling debris.
4. 10% from other causes.
During the following months, a lot of people died from the effects of burns and radiation sickness.
This is a very touching day for many people, and my thoughts go out to them and their families on this horrifying day.
