The RockFactory Week was a huge success and saw 24 young people took part whichincluded both existing and newly formed bands and artists as well as completenovices!

The RockFactory is a very popular and well attended activity which takes place onSundays at Tonyrefail Workingmens Club from 12 noon to 3pm. This uniqueactivity provides a creative space for young people to try out new instruments, build on existing skills, and explore areas of music and sound technology, offering a valuable insight to life as performing musicians.

YEPS TutorRob Payne has been running the Factory for the past two years and has nurturedbudding musicians, helped new and existing bands to grow and experience thedemands of live performances.

“I felt that the Rock factory sessions held in the holidayswere a great success. The young people worked very hard to meet therequirements of a live show in a very short amount of time, which was no smalltask. Another aspect that stood out for me was the sense of community youngpeople developed. The students helped each other, shared both knowledge andequipment freely and displayed a strong social interaction. Everyone involvedshould feel proud of what they achieved.”

The RockFactory holiday provision was ran over four days alongside Media Week and was delivered by the staff of Wicid, whichinvolved Creative Writing, Film and Photography. Young people who took part inMedia Week interviewed musicians and documented the sessions, as well asphotographing and reviewing the live showcase performance.

“It was a brilliant couple of days I met some great peoplewho enjoyed the same music, we got together for a little jam and hit it off.The show was the best I can’t wait to meet up again got loads of tracks I wantto try out.”
