The YEPS summer holiday provision at Tonyrefail School offered a packed programme of trips and activities for young people in and around RCT.
Golf –British Open Pro Day
The summerkicked off with a trip to Porthcawl’s Royal Golf Club for the British Open ProGolf event where sun was the order of the day. The Tonyrefail YEPS team (also known as #TeamTon), LeonBansal, Les Davies and Ali Buck, accompanied 12 budding golfers to the eventwhere they took part in a master-class from professional trainers. All youngpeople had collected autographs from many of the pro golfers including MiguelAngel Jimenez and Ian Woosnam. Many of the young people in the group impressed the trainers with their golfing skills that day but none moreso than our own Les Davies who beat the sporty Leon Bansal in the streetgolf!
Combat Zoneat Dare Valley Country Park was a day full of sun cream and camouflage. The 20young people who attended were split into two teams and battled with their lazer gunsout in the sticks. The games were action-packed and the young people werecommunicating and showing good team work skills in trying to gain victory inthe battles. The young people had a great day and their attitude towards theactivity was first class.
Tie Dye Art and Bling Up Your Stuff
The creations were flying at Capel Farm during the summer holiday with Tie Dye Artand Bling Up Your Stuff with YEPS tutor, Carley Perkins. Young people took partin Tie Dye Art where colourful patterns were created using everything fromstring and elastic to buttons and beads. Sparkle was the order of the day with Bling UpYour Stuff which saw young people bling up various items such as: sunglasses, pencil cases, hair grips andflip flops!
The YEPS team at Tonyrefail School worked in partnership with Taff Communities First atGilfach Goch Community Association to offer Get Cooking sessions. Young people learned how to safely prepareand cook healthy, nutritious meals such as lasagne and meatballs.
YEPS tutorSam Jones provided Hair and Beauty sessions at Gilfach Goch CommunityAssociation during the holidays. The centre has its own salon which offeredthe ideal setting for all our budding beauticians and hair designers and needlessto say, big hair was the theme along with some funky coloured spray.
On ThursdayAugust 14th the YEPS team took 11 young people to Dare ValleyCountry Park for a day of challenges. The day began with a course in archery whichinvolved a fun game of ‘build the pittza’, a competition where teams had to hitall colours of the target to win. Mountain biking was the next challenge which ended up with everyone splattered in mud.The day ended with the group completing a canoeing challenge which everyonethoroughly enjoyed and although the weather was wet, all young people gotinvolved and completed every part of their challenge.
