Tonyrefail School pupils were diverted from their regular timetables last week as the Youth Engagement & Participation Service visited to deliver internet safety workshops for years 7, 8 and 9. Planned and delivered by Les Davies, the school’s Youth Engagement Officer, pupils engaged in the CEOP ‘Think U Know’ internet safety information workshop and information art classes where pupils made internet safety posters in the YEPS Extended Provision in the evening.
The sessions covered a variety of areas and included interactive activities about cyber-bullying and keeping yourself safe online. All sessions were very well attended and all pupils engaged fully.
“It’s a continuation of the ongoing work the YEPS team provide for schools in RCT. We live in a world where young people spend a huge amount of time online, on their phones, laptops, Xbox or tablets. Keeping young people safe online is now just as important as in real life” – Les Davies, Youth Engagement Officer.
For pupils that didn’t have the opportunity to take part in the lessons during school time, the YEPS team also ran art sessions in the Extended Provision on Monday and Thursday after school and focused on how to tackle Cyber Bullies and pupils created information posters.
Additional sessions have been scheduled for 2017. If you would like to get involved, pop into the YEPS room and see Les Davies.
