Life Is Strange: Before The Storm – Game Review

Recently, I have been playing Life Is Strange: Before The Storm and it made me think of writing a review. The game is the second entry in the Life Is Strange series, set as a prequel to the first game. I am currently on my second run through of the game and this game never seems to get old because there is so much drama in it and there are so many different ways you can complete the story.

Main Features

The campaign mode is single player only but nonetheless it’s really good, all of your decisions in game affect your relationships with the other people around you which I love and I love it because it’s completely different to most games these days. The whole story is centred around you as you play as a character called Chloe who doesn’t really see eye to eye with her family on numerous issues. After the intro, you meet Rachel, Rachel can be really cheeky and that shows when she convinces you to leave home and go away with her for a short period.

When you do finally return home there’s A LOT of consequences to your actions that involve your family and school. One of my favourite parts *SPOILER ALERT* is when you take part in the school play, someone drops out and you step in to take their place. You don’t have time to learn all the lines so you have to improvise while on stage!! I don’t want to spoil too much of the game so I’ll leave you find out about the other consequences of your actions. It’ll definitely keep you busy.

Graphics 9/10

Graphics are stunning and visually the game looks very good. The only bad thing in my opinion is that they could have made all the characters more realistic, check out the trailer at the top of the page for a preview of the gameplay.

The controls are really smooth and you have no issues finding your way about but there are a few scenes in the game where you have to find things that are maybe a bit too hard but overall really good and smooth.

I haven’t come across any bugs or glitches which is a good sign because it shows that this game has been thoroughly tested, the game developers have obviously taken their time to make sure it’s ready for release. There is downloadable content but unless you have a code or a limited edition version of the game you will need to pay for it. In my opinion the DLC is not really worth picking up as all you get is extra clothing, I have it but you don’t get as much as you’d think, but if you like customising your characters in game then it’s worth thinking about.

You can pick up Life Is Strange: Before The Storm on PS4, XBOX, PC, Tablets and Smartphones.

This game was also nominated for a BAFTA Games Award in the category Game Beyond Entertainment, it was very well received by game critics.
