The 5×60 Officers working in the Taf area of RCT recently organised a Girls’ Football Competition; in partnership with ‘Game On’, with great results.
A fantastic 61 pupils from; Pontypridd High School, Y Pant Comprehensive School, Bryncelynnog Comprehensive School, Cardinal Newman R.C School, Hawthorn High School and Tonyrefail Comprehensive School took part in the competition, which was partly supported by the Coalfield’s Regeneration Trust.
The competition was strong with highly skilled players from Years 7 and 8 – some of whom had never played football before – from each school who played a: “Round Robin”.
Bryncelynnong and Tonyrefail entered the final, but through a hard fight Tonyrefail emerged victorious and scored a golden goal to take the crown!
On the second day of the competition, 62 more girls took part in another high-energy, fun and competitive game with Years 9 and 10. Ysgol Gyfun Gartholwg earned the trophy against their game with Bryncelynnog but both teams played a fantastic game!
With 123 pupils engaged over the two days, 5×60 Officers are hoping to continue working with: “Game On” as without them this tournament would not have been possible. In 2018 to hold more tournaments and extend the opportunity to more young people through Rhondda Cynon Taf.
