Career Opportunities for Creative Types!

A programme to raise awareness of the Creative andCultural Industries sector as a career pathway to those aged 16-plus has beenlaunched by Rhondda Cynon Taf Cultural Services’ Arts Development Team.

Designs for Life focuses on the routesinto the sector, including music, film, TV, fashion and photography.

It will include seminars, advice surgeries forindividuals and networking opportunities for creative industry SME businessesin the area. It was officially launched at Porth Plaza in partnership withcreative events company Push4. 

Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Mayor Cllr Simon Lloyd, whoattended the launch, said: “Designs for Life is all about encouragingyoung people to find out how they can work in the creative industries, be itthrough performing and visual arts, music, film, fashion or their associatedindustries.

“We hope many young people will take advantage ofwhat’s on offer through the programme to explore some exciting career options.”

Theprogramme gets underway with a seminar called Make It Happen onSaturday, July 17, 2010 at the Muni Arts Centre, Pontypridd between 10:30 a.m.and 15:30 p.m.

This free event offerspractical advice for songwriters, artists, managers, labels and more in thecontext of today’s music industry. It is presented by the Welsh MusicFoundation in association with RCT Cultural Services,

As well asa morning session featuring a panel of guest speakers from the music industry,there will also be a surgery session with the Welsh Music Foundation who willbe on hand to give advice to aspiring music companies.

In theafternoon, there will be advice for bands, musicians and budding musicjournalists, through a special interactive workshop.

The‘Promote & Plug’ session will also cater to those interested in musicjournalism, giving practical advice on interviewing musicians and approachingmedia outlets, and will feature an introduction from ‘Plugged In’ magazine the music magazine for Wales based in Rhondda Cynon Taf.
