Film Review: Going in Style

Going in Style (2017) is a funny and heart-rending story that follows three lifelong friends – Willie (Morgan Freeman), Joe (Michael Caine), and Albert (Alan Arkin) – who embark on a risky mission to get back the money their bank took from them.

The film was full of funny moments that made me laugh out loud, sit on the edge of my seat in tense anticipation, and even scenes that almost brought a tear to my eye. I unexpectedly loved this film; I wasn’t expecting to enjoy it as much as I did because I normally favour horror films that keep your blood pumping in fear, but I was pleasantly surprised with the satisfaction I felt coming out of the cinema afterwards.

As an introvert, throughout this movie I lived my sneaky, adventurous life vicariously through these three elderly men. I can’t say I’ve ever had my pension frozen, but I’d like to think I’d be as spontaneous as these men as well as abiding by the law.
