The wait is finally over for thousands of Rhondda Cynon Taf GCSE students as the County Borough celebrates their achievements.

A staggering 98 per cent of the County Borough’s young people attained a pass rate (A-G) in GCSEs, which is the second best result ever seen in the County Borough. Over half 60.1 per cent – secured grades A*-C.

While the number of passes fell slightly on recent years, the 2010 figures show the continuation of the success of 2009, in which the highest-ever grades were attained.

Cllr Eudine Hanagan, Cabinet member for Education, Lifelong Learning and Skills, said: “It was a pleasure to visit the County Borough’s schools this morning and witness the success of our students.

“Once again, the teenagers have done very well and we warmly congratulate all of them on their results today.

“Today’s results are because of hard work by students and staff at our schools, as well as the vital support provided by families who are committed to helping young people reach their potential.

“Results such as those seen today are a result of months of dedication and commitment by everyone involved.

“I would also like to sincerely thank the staff who have made the recent successes in A levels and GCSEs possible.”

“Year after year we continue to be proud and pleased with the achievements of our young people.

“They have been striving to secure the experience and qualifications needed for their next stage in life and education. We wish them all the best of luck.”
