County Youth Forum – 28th June 2023

What we discussed:

 

County Youth Forum Update: 

Young people from seven different school councils and YEPS community forums received update on current progress of County Youth Forum and brought up to speed with recent meetings

 

 

 

Community Forum/School Council Feedback:

School Council young people and Community Forum groups were invited to share work that they had been involved in over last few weeks:

 

County Youth Forum Roles

An update was provided on the next steps of deciding roles for County Youth Forum and how young people will selected who takes those roles

Cynon Youth Forum

  • Taken part in Safe Spaces logo consultation with Post 16 Team.
  • Information/idea gathering session with Allyn for Girls Rights/Street Harassment project.
  • Attended Youth Work Week event at WMC to perform White Ribbon poem.

 

Rhondda Youth Forum

  • Worked with post 16 team to design Safe Spaces logo.
  • Designing RYF logo

 

Nantgwyn School council

  • Set up foodbank to help pupils and local community who may be struggling to afford food.
  • Taking part in a competition to be in with a chance of winning £1000 prize to donate to a charity of their choice.

 

Cwm Rhondda

  • Currently trying to accumulate books to create a school library.
  • Head pupil elections taken place
  • Promoting Welsh language by running break and lunch clubs to help improve pupils Welsh.

 

Ponty High School

  • Promoted online therapy app “Kooth” with pupils at school
  • Fundraiser in aid of mental health awareness and raised £248
  • Helping with school transition into 3-16 school.

 

YEPS Celebration Event 2023

Young people were shown photos and videos of the event and told how well their theme idea of “festival vibes” were received.  Young people who were present at the Celebration event also mentioned how loud and engaged everyone was on the night.

Youth Work Week- Group Activity

Groups took part in an activity to see how they saw and felt about Youth Work, how the profession is seen by others and what Youth Work means to them.

Youth Work Week- Group Feedback

Young people felt that youth work is a safe ad welcoming place for young people to go and express themselves and be themselves without fear of judgement.  The common theme, seemed to contain the words “Chaos” and “Snacks” and that young people feel welcomed, encouraged and listened to when accessing the youth service/YEPS.

Volunteers to film Youth Work Week Recording

Young people recorded a series of short clips talking about “What Youth Work Means To Me” which will be posted on social media and YEPS.WALES.

Staying in Touch: 

The meeting was finished by a discussion on how best to stay in touch as a County Youth Forum Group. Within this, CYF mailbox was explained and shared, a CYF what’s app group was formed, and dates of next meeting were shared
