RCT Council Virtual Work Experience Programme
Hi everyone and welcome to RCT Council’s Virtual Work Experience Programme for 2021 brought to you by the Employment, Education and Training (EET) Team in partnership with YEPS.
Since March 2020, the world of work has changed dramatically and many people are still adapting and getting used to some of the new ‘norms’. Ideas such as; working from home, virtual meetings, online inductions and cloud collaboration were thought by many to be years into the future. However, the pandemic has forced us to adapt and overcome and in doing so has likely changed the world of work forever!
One of the biggest barriers young people face to entering the workforce is their ‘lack of experience’ and a major negative of the pandemic has been the inability for anybody to take part in work experience. Work experience is often the beginning of your journey into work and allows you to ‘try out’ a role or a company to see if it’s something that you’d like to do when you leave education. It provides you with demonstrable examples of when you’ve been in a work environment which in turn increases your experience and makes future job applications more impressive.
To give you some insight into a few of the careers on offer across RCT Council, many of which are in growth sectors, there is a bank of work experience videos as well as 2 live events with employers daily that you will be able to access here;-
|9.00 – 9.25||Apprenticeship Coordinator||Social Work||Exercise Referral Professional||Employability Skills||Teaching|
|9.30 – 9.55||Education & Waste Services||Videography||Marketing||Engineering||Digital Services|
Now, taking part in this virtual programme cannot fully replace the experience that you’d get from undertaking a week’s placement in an actual company but what it will do is;-
- Give you an insight into several high profile careers.
- Allow you to hear from and interact with professionals in a number of sought after roles.
- Support you to identify potential careers based on your personality.
- Introduce you to growth areas for South East Wales to help you understand what jobs and industries will be likely to grow and shrink in the future.
- Improve your understanding of the processes involved with getting a job.
- Support you to set goals to reach your desired career.
- Support your mental and emotional well-being.
Each day, new activities will be released as well as 2 live events with professionals in a range of different industries. All you need to do is create or log in to your WICID account each day and follow the instructions for that day.
So please, get involved and if you have any questions or comments along the way send them to firstname.lastname@example.org
