The Lions Draw The Series In Epic Third Test

I didn’t know whether to celebrate or be disappointed after the final Lions game. They managed to get a draw which I thought reflected the game perfectly. This also meant that the Lions and New Zealand fans will have to share the boasting rights because the series finished as a draw. Here’s how it happened:

New Zealand had all of the possession and territory in the opening half an hour and came out of it with two tries. The first was scored by Laumape when Beauden Barret kicked a cross field kick to his brother on the right who passed it inside. The second came from a brilliant break through the defensive line by Barret (again) who passed to his brother (again) who strolled in. Two penalties from Farrell made it 12-6 to the All Blacks at half-time.

It was a very tense second half. Both teams feared to give away a knock on or a penalty. It felt like a world cup final and the atmosphere in the stadium was fantastic. After multiple penalties, including a monster from Elliot Daley, leveled the scores 15-15. It ended as a draw. To conclude, I think that this was a great result for the Lions and a very successful series. They managed to do what no other team could do since 1994 by not losing to the All Blacks at Eden Park.

Overall, despite not achieving their goal of winning the series against New Zealand, this was a much more successful series for the Lions than New Zealand because they beat the best team in the world.
