New Film Talent In Wales Gets A Boost

Film Fest Cymru is It’s My Shout Production’s firstever four-day film festival, celebrating new talent in film, television and thearts in Wales.

From October 11th-14th 2014, both in and around Cardiff Bay,Swansea and Caernarfon, the festival will showcase a wide range of groups andindividuals It’s My Shout has worked with over the years. The festival will playhost to dynamic performers from across the country, including singers, dancers,musicians, poets and more.

Film Fest Cymru is also the place to be foranyone interested in developing their film skills. Across the Saturday andSunday festival-goers will be able to attend workshops and seminars withexperts and respected industry professionals in Cardiff Bay. On the Monday,Swansea Bay studios are opening their doors to festival-goers and on Tuesday,events are taking place within the Galeri in Caernarfon as well as a touraround Cwmni Da’s production facilities. Among these talks by industryprofessionals will be a Directing Workshop with Phillip John (Downton Abbey,Being Human, Murphy’s Law); Composing for Film & Television with BAFTAaward winning composer John Rea (Six Nations, Wildlife on One, Dr Who’sGreatest Moments); Cinematography with Director of Photography Rory Taylor(Dr Who, Torchwood, Human Traffic) and Comedy Writing with Boyd Clackand Kirsten Jones (High Hopes, Satellite City).

Attendees will also be able to meet Matt Savage, an ex-It’sMy Shout trainee now working as a concept artist on the latest Star Wars film,and Danny Clark, another ex-It’s My Shout trainee now working in the StarWars design department.

It doesn’t stop there either. It’s My Shout havecommissioned an artist from Chile – Sebastian Mardones – to build a GraffitiPhotography Wall as part of the ‘Faces in Places’ exhibition, which looks toreflect individuals and communities from the areas across Wales where It’s MyShout’s BBC/S4C Made in Wales series was made.

It’s My Shout Productions takes on hundreds of young peopleas trainees annually, both in front of and behind the camera, giving themopportunities to work on short films for BBC Cymru Wales and S4C. Every yearthese films are premiered at a red carpet awards ceremony in the WalesMillennium Centre in Cardiff Bay.

Being held this year on October 12th, it isthe flagship event of the festival; a reward for the hard work of the youngpeople taking part in the filming over the summer. Weekend tickets are just£25, and allow access to all festival events, as well as discounts for thePremiere event. Day tickets are also available.
