Only Boys Aloud, the world’s biggest boy band who recently achieved third place in the nation’s favourite contest, Britain’s Got Talent, is on the lookout for new members in Pontypridd, and holding a special taster session this Saturday at the Muni Arts Centre to recruit new members.
Young men aged 14 to 19 are invited to the Muni between 10am and 12 Noon on Saturday 30th June, when team captain and Only Men Aloud member David Fortey and colleagues will be running the session.
David said: “On the back of the huge success of Only Boys Aloud getting to the final of Britain’s Got Talent and performing in front of a TV audience of millions, we are looking to expand the Pontypridd group for young men throughout the area. The taster session will give potential new members the chance to get involved with a vocal workshop, talk to existing OBA members and team captains, get to know more about the choir and what happens during rehearsals, and most importantly sign up on the day if they are interested in joining.”
Those who are interested in coming along to the session can just turn up on the day. A background in music is not required, and there is no audition to face, or fee to pay. All that is required is a lot of enthusiasm, reliability, and a willingness to try something new.
The 14-19 year old boys are mentored by members of Only Men Aloud in regional choirs throughout the South Wales Valleys and first performed at the National Eisteddfod in 2010. Since then they have had two BBC Cymru Wales series, appeared at the Millennium Stadium with Dame Shirley Bassey and Catherine Zeta Jones in the Ryder Cup Welcome to Wales concert, scooped two Arts & Business Cymru Awards, set up the Principality Only Boys Aloud Academi, and marked their first anniversary with a headline concert at home in Treorchy.
