Produced in partnership with Royal Exchange Theatre & Theatre By The Lake, we take a look at the Sherman Theatre’s upcoming funny and hopeful production How My Light is Spent.
Written by Cardiff-based playwright Alan Harris and directed by Liz Stevenson, How My Light is Spent follows the story of Jimmy, a 36-year-old doughnut drive-through worker still living with his mum, who finds comfort in life by calling Kitty, a Newport phone sex worker, at £1.20 a minute. However, Jimmy’s life takes a turn for the worse after losing his job.
Starring Rhodri Meilir (Jimmy), who boasts an impressive CV with a wealth of experience of working in film and television in Wales, and Alexandria Riley (Kitty), who is making waves in Wales’ theatre and radio drama scene and will undoubtedly gain further recognition from this and future productions. Harris’ previous production at the Sherman Theatre, Love, Lies and Taxidermy, was met with acclaim by Cardiff audiences and How My Light is Spent will certainly excite fans of his previous works.
“Alan has a unique voice that is playful, charming and wonderfully weird. I think this is an entertaining, uplifting and accessible play that audiences in Cardiff will really warm to”
– Liz Stevenson, Director
The Sherman looks to continue its work of promoting the creative talents of Welsh writers and actors nationally and internationally. How My Light is Spent will run at the Sherman Theatre from 16-27 May – tickets can be purchased here:
