Technology is great, isn’t it? I mean, for starters, it saves trees because less paper is used. Apps are a great addition to the world of technology because they can do so much and give you so much information on a device as small as your phone. So, isn’t it great that if you need to find out information about a job club, there’s now an app for it? Yeah, that’s what I thought.
Introducing the new RCT Job Club App, which can find you your nearest Job Club at anytime, search by day or location, contact details for your local Job Clubs and even link you to Google Maps to find out where your Job Club is. Pretty cool, isn’t it? Big Click has embarked on a project which developed this mobile app in order to help people find out about local centres where they can get the support to find employment. With over 20 Job Clubs being helped throughout the week in RCT, it was pretty hard to remember where each was located and when they were being held. Creating a tool which is used by over 50% of the UK on a daily basis, Big Click (not to be confused with CLIC, the national site of Wales, you know…in case you got confused) hopes that more people will be able to find the support they want when in need of finding and applying for jobs.
This app was developed by RCT resident Robert Pengelly for Big Click as part of his work experience placement with Job Centre Plus. After his work placement, Robert continued his work on the app as a volunteer for Penrhys Partnership which hosts the Big Click project. Through the experience of developing the RCT Job Club App, Robert expanded on his excellent programming skills and intends to continue working with software tp develop his own operating system. Seems like there could be a new competitor for the likes of Google and Microsoft on the horizon…
What’s also great about the app is that it’s free to download and hopefully will be the first of many which will be introduced to the local people of RCT.
So, how does the app work? Well, I’m glad you asked. (If you didn’t ask, let’s pretend you did, okay?) The app’s design has been created so it is easy to use with clearly defined buttons. You can press on a phone number on the app which will directly call a centre you need to get in contact with or tap on the address which will access Google Maps on your phone which will show you the exact location of the particular Job Club. How clever is technology these days, eh?
If you’re not a fan of Apple products, fear not, as the app is available on Android phones, too, as well as Windows Mobile users.
Big Click is part of an umbrella network of partners who work together to improve the Digital Inclusion in Rhondda Cynon Taff which aims to get RCT online. Over 35% of residents in RCT are digitally excluded while the majority of services – both public and private – are moving online, so now is the time to encourage those close to you to begin learning the skills which will soon be a requirement as the digital age increases its use of technology.
What do you think of all this? Think it’s cool that our county is getting involved with the modern age? Will you be downloading the app? Why not comment below?
