Review: Merthyr Rock

It was my first time at Merthyr Rock this year and I really enjoyed it. There were so many bands from all over, which I thought was really cool. There were a few different genres there, too, such as rock, punk, screamo and also a cross between reggae and punk which probably sounds really weird but was actually really good.

Some of the bands I saw were: Blitz Kids, Reel Big Fish, Anti Flag and The Blackout. Some of the songs that the bands played were really good, like ‘Brown Eyed Girl’, ‘All I Want Is Everything’, ‘Sold My Soul’, ‘Die For Your Government’ and ‘All For Peace’.

The atmosphere was a lot different to what I thought it would be like. I thought it would be really crowded and loud but it was the complete opposite to that. It was relaxed and fun and you could tell that everyone was enjoying the festival.

You could also tell that the acts actually wanted to be there; they got the crowd involved and you could tell that they wanted to have a good time but they also wanted you to have a good time. The bands were being themselves which you don’t see a lot with bands but they acted as if they weren’t famous or toured the world or have got stacks of money. They all acted as if they were down to earth and I was really happy about that.

The bands even had my friend dancing and she doesn’t like rock so they must have been good if she got involved and had a good time, too.

Overall, all of the bands were amazing and Merthyr Rock is now one of my favourite festivals. I can’t wait to see what it’s like next year.
