A night of family fun is guaranteed as Y Pant Comprehensive School celebrates the debut performance of a new, exciting version of Peter Pan. Keeping alive the fine tradition of professionally crafted school shows,
Y Pant will present J.M. Barrie’s timeless classic at the end of March which will include colourful costumes, scenery and plenty of memorable songs. A cast of more than fifty talented students will take to the stage after months of tireless preparation. Supported by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Services for Young People e3+ programme, which runs a whole host of after-school activities, the show is probably the most ambitious ever produced at the school.
The cast is led by Amy Bridges in the role of Peter Pan, Lauren James as Wendy and Sean James as Captain Hook.
Headteacher of Y Pant, Stuart Tucker, said: “The commitment and talent and these three individuals typifies the attitude of the rest of the cast who have given selflessly of their time over the last six months.
”All are determined as the staff involved to ensuring that this show raises the bar – the continued aim of both the Drama and Music Department here at the school.
”Once again the entire production has been a real team effort between pupils, staff and the Services For Young People e3+ team. The set has been designed by Jessica Scott, a freelance set designer and graduate of the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in conjunction with the school’s art department and students themselves.
Head of Drama Owen Thomas has directed the entire production while music teacher Marvin Thomas has ensured the young people are on top vocal form. With the set built by the school’s caretaking team and teacher Gill Lee designing the many exquisite costumes, former pupil Richard Evans, now a theatre designer in his own right, will support the technical elements.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Education, Skills and Lifelong Learning Cllr Eudine Hanagan said: “I’m continually impressed by the very high standards and sheer professionalism of school productions throughout the County Borough as students and teachers alike dedicate their time, energy and talent to continually produce first-class entertainment.
“I’m sure Y Pant’s production of Peter Pan will be another resounding success and would like to congratulate all of those involved for their commitment and support.”
