We all know about Independence Day, right? But what about Side Walk Egg Frying Day, which is also on the 4th of July?!

I bet you don’t know much about that…

So let’s ‘eggucate’ ourselves.

The origins for this weird and wonderful day comes from the saying: “It’s so hot you could fry an egg on the sidewalk”, which dates back to 1899.

The city of Oatman, Arizona has a tradition of frying an egg on the sidewalk every 4th of July. They use simple kitchen equipment like reflectors, magnifying glasses and mirrors to maximize the heat.

The heat then allows the egg to fry and eventually cook.

There are loads of competitions that go on in Oatman, to see whose contraption can fry the eggs the fastest. Whoever’s egg fries first, wins.

Are any of you going to take part in Side Walk Egg Frying Day? Tell us if you are!
