This May, GTFMcelebrates its 12th year as Wales’ first full time FM CommunityRadio Station, serving Pontypridd and surrounding parts of RCT County Borough.A registered charity in our own right, we’ll be celebrating by teaming up withlocal breast cancer support charity – Rhondda Breast Friends, to host ourbiggest ever charity fundraising event…a live 75 hour marathon broadcast.
Starting at 7am on Friday 30th May andrunning until 10am onMonday 2nd June, three of our regular presenters (Mark Andrews,Gavin Powell & Geoff Davies) will attempt to broadcast LIVE, non-stop, for75 hours through-out the weekend, to raise vital funds for the two localcharities.
We’reencouraging local businesses & organisations to get involved with the eventto support both organisations. One way they’ll be able to do that, is bydonating £50 to exclusively sponsor part of the broadcast. We’ll also bemounting other activities including an RBF coffee morning, charity bucketcollections at local supermarkets and an on-air auction of donated goods, plus variousspecial guests, interviews & live performances.
GTFM Station Manager Terry Mann says:
“Like most community serviceorganisations and charities, GTFM is having to raise a lot more of the money itneeds to continue broadcasting these days through its own fund raising efforts, following cuts in Government funding.
So this Marathon Broadcast seems an excellent way to do just that – as well as celebrating our12th birthday.
And, of course, we are absolutelydelighted to be teaming up Rhondda BreastFriends, a most deserving and 100% local charity, which provides immenselyvaluable support to people facing some of life’s most difficultchallenges”
RhonddaBreast Friends Centre Manager Christina Ryan says:
“RBF are delighted that GTFM haschosen us to partner them for their forthcoming “75 hour Radiothon” at the endof May. We are all very excited to be part of their latest fundraisingventure…and we look forward to helping them raise as much money as they can.
GTFM has supported Rhondda BreastFriends since we first launched the charity in 2006, now it’s our turn to givesomething back.
“Good luck with the event from all atRBF.”
