This year Wicid is supporting three charities, which are also supported by the mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taff – Ann Crimmings. These three charities, Guide Dogs for the Blind, Diabetes Support for Children and Macmillan Cancer Support, are very important charities that do a lot of great work in your community and across the country.
Guide Dogs for the Blind:
“Guide Dogs provide mobility and freedom to blind and partially sighted children and adults through our guide dogs and other mobility services. A guide dog can give people the gift of choice, to be able to go where they want, when they want and get back home safely again. We also make a commitment for life, so once you have a guide dog from us, we promise to provide one for you for as long as you need one. This can be up to 7 or 8 dogs in a lifetime, a huge commitment from us.”
Diabetes Support for Children:
“Finding out that your child has diabetes can be a challenging time for any parent. You may have to learn to inject insulin and take blood glucose tests as well as helping your child deal with their diabetes. There are 200 children with diabetes in Rhondda Cynon Taff who will benefit from the Mayor’s Charity Appeal. Cwmbach Diabetic Group has supported children with diabetes for over 30 years by providing equipment for the children’s clinic at the hospital and have also successfully campaigned for a paediatric diabetes specialist nurse for children in our area.”

Macmillan Cancer Support:
“Macmillan professionals are specialists in their area of cancer care and leaders in their field. They provide vital support from the time someone suspects they have cancer to when they no longer want our help. They coordinate care; relieve symptoms and help people deal with the practical and emotional effects of cancer. One in three of us will get cancer and it’s the toughest thing most of us will ever face. If you’ve been diagnosed with cancer, or a loved one has, you’ll want a team of people in your corner supporting you every step of the way.”
