UPDATE – Coronavirus, not so many crisps and a bit more movement!

My self-isolation journey so far…

It’s me Beth, I’m back with a little update of my covid-19 lockdown journey! It’s been almost 3 months since my first day in isolation, 12 weeks and 5 days…. 89 days!!!! I’m not sure where the time has gone, but there has definitely been some ups and downs along the way.

Do I still feel anxious? – Yeah sometimes!

Confused? – I think so…

Lonely? – Now and again, but now we can meet someone outside it’s made things so much better!

So what have I been doing for 89 days?
The first 10 weeks went pretty much the same as my first blog. Working from home, shovelling as many crisps in my mouth as possible (I’m sure I’ve broken some kind of record), going for a walk every now and then and doing a weekly shop, which kinda felt like being on supermarket sweep as I was racing around the shop trying to get out as quick as I could. Trolley full to the brim with crisps of course!

Video calls, houseparty, zoom….. I’m now a pro!
Keeping in touch with family, friends and the young people I work with meant I had to become a bit more tech savvy. I wasn’t a huge fan of video calls, it meant I had to brush my hair and get out of my PJ’s before 5pm, however, I had to push myself out of my comfort zone so I could do my job and also keep some sort of normality by seeing the faces of my family and friends. I’m used to it now and realised that you don’t have to be actually in the same room as someone to have fun.

Exercise? Nah, not for me mate. Wait a minute, maybe it is!
Ok, so I’m going to be honest here. For a while I did very little “exercise”. I was seeing people being really proactive and doing lots of work, lots of exercise, basically getting stuff done, while I just sat on my sofa with very little motivation and honestly, my joints started hurting. Even though I was up early for work I was sat down pretty much all day everyday! …..BUT I decided to take my own advice. I joined the Go Team! YEPS challenge with some of the young people I work with and started moving. Seeing their motivation really gave me the kick start I needed. What was amazing is that I was on a group video call, out of my PJ’s, seeing friendly faces, having a laugh AND doing exercise all before midday! Ermmm what?! It really was the start of a new routine for me……

The sales of crisps in my local supermarket has dropped!
So, probably everyday I talk about how important it is to sleep, eat, to get outdoors and to talk to people. I was not taking my own advice! Was not going out for walks, was living on crisps, avoiding video calls and some days not sleeping until early hours. For the past 3 weeks things have been different. I am walking every day without fail, I completed the Go Team! YEPS challenge, (yes I managed to do 200sit ups) I am doing some exercises at home and I am eating proper cooked food! My sleep has improved massively! I was sleeping by 10:30pm last night and I am feeling so much better! 

New way of life maybe?
I am getting used to this way of life, however I am looking forward to when I can get back to seeing people properly, with no restrictions. Oh, and going to Nando’s for a veggie burger with peri peri chips, corn on the cob, garlic bread, spicy rice….. all of the sides please drive! 

Anyway, Go Team! YEPS challenge has started back up from the 15th June 2020, this one is SQUATS! Please come and join us, it really isn’t like some of the fitness videos you see online, it’s just adding some laughter and routine to your day with a bit of movement, but you may surprise yourself like I did!!
