Hey, we all love food, right? Well, today is our day. It is World Food Day! Yes that’s right…World Food Day.

On the 16th of October we all probably think it’s a normal day. Well, this article tells us why it isn’t a normal day. This day is called World Food Day, it’s celebrated every year around the world in honour of the original date of the founding of the food and agriculture organisation of the United Nations in 1945.

Every year there’s different themes. This year the theme is ‘Sustainable Food Systems for Food Security and Nutrition’. All the themes highlight areas that are needed for action and provide a theme to concentrate on. All the themes are based around agriculture, Here are some random themes that they have done: 1981- Food Comes First, 1984 – Women in Agriculture, 1991 – Trees for the Truth, 1996 – Fighting Hunger and Malnutrition, 2007 – The Right to Food, 2010 – United Against Hunger.

This day shows all the issues in 150 countries, raising awareness of the issues behind poverty and hunger.

In the United States this is a tradition since the first World Food Day. In the United States the day is sponsored by 450 national and private voluntary organisations. This is one example of an event they do on this wonderful day. There’s also a Sunday dinner that Oxfam America sponsors along with several other non profit organisations.

Well, thank you for taking a little bit of time to read all about World Food Day and I hope this has given you enough information on what it is.
