YouTube Month: The You Generation

There are so many talent shows today. The X Factor, The Voice and Britain’s Got Talent are some of the most popular in the UK. But have you ever seen an online talent search?

The You Generation is an online video-sharing competition which was created and launched by Simon Cowell in 2013 which is in partnership with YouTube. There are a series of different categories in which contestants can upload auditions to win prizes and has a new competition every two weeks. The talent search was launched in 2013 via a livestream show on The You Generation YouTube channel which featured an interview with One Direction.

The You Generation was created as “YouTube is the biggest video channel in the world, but real stars can get lost in the mix because there are more than 72 hours of footage uploaded every minute,” according to Cowell. The fortnightly winners will receive $2000 (or equivalent) and the overall winner will win $75,000.

The competition will last for a year (52) weeks and will be covering all sorts of talent searches – from singing and dancing to cooking and beauty tutorials – The You Generation is looking for it all and is open to global entries. The current categories have been the following:

Presenting, Fantastic Food, Female Vocalists, Comedy/Stand up, Style Gurus, Male Vocalists, Impressionists, Vloggers, Tricks/Magic, Amazing Bodies, Viral Videos, Performing Pets, Balls, Bikes & Boards, Girl Bands, Dancers, Halloween, Boy Bands, Make Up, Mixed Groups, Animation, Presenter For The Next Series.
